Oh. My. God. Lou, my next door neighbour, Darren’s ex-wife, is dead. Actually DEAD! I can’t believe it.

I missed what happened - I must have been in the shower. I never miss anything that goes on around here. Not normally.

I’d noticed Lou sitting alone at her patio table, when I closed the blind in the back bedroom. She was nursing a glass of something, as though she was cradling an injured bird. She looked well pissed off. I assumed she must have fallen out with her boyfriend.

One minute she was alive and kicking, the next…

I had no idea anything was wrong until I heard sirens, then footsteps drumming up and down the drive. I dove into the back bedroom. Donna was weeping over a slumped shape beside Lou’s shed. At first I thought Lou must be drunk. I couldn’t tell what was going on at all. It was only when I went outside and leaned over the fence that I realised something was badly wrong. I can’t imagine they’d put those white tents over someone that was still alive. They’d have been getting her into an ambulance if she still had a chance, not covering her up with a tent, surely?
